Round 5 of 8: January
WORLDWIDE CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER, J. WALTER THOMPSON
Matt joined J. Walter Thompson as Worldwide Chief Creative Officer in July 2014. Described by Britain’s Campaign magazine as a “unicorn” in the communications industry, Matt has overseen some of the most innovative and recognizable creative projects in advertising today. His career has spanned numerous agencies, specialties and countries, including Australia, the UK and US. Matt was a founding partner of M&C Saatchi in Australia before he went on to join DDB Australia as National Creative Director and Vice Chairman. In 2010 he moved to DDB New York as Chief Creative Officer. And in AdAge’s 2013 Awards Report, Matt was listed as the 5th most-awarded Chief Creative Officer worldwide. In 2016, Matt led J. Walter Thompson to a historic year at Cannes, winning a total of 80 Lions – more than the agency had ever won in their 150-year history. Most excitingly, J. Walter Thompson moved from 14th to 7th most-awarded network at Cannes, making the agency one of the “biggest movers” at Cannes in 2016. During his career, Matt has won numerous accolades and honors, including Campaign Brief Agency of the Year, Australian Creative Hotshop, AdNews Agency of the Year, Creativity’s Agency to Watch, B&T Agency of the Year, Spikes Network of the Year, and Campaign magazine Network of the Year. He is a highly awarded creative with an international sensibility, living life as a New Yorker.
What is HeforShe?
HeForShe’s mission is to create true gender equality across the globe. Although people everywhere understand and support the idea of gender equality, what many don’t realize is that it’s not just a women’s issue, it’s a human rights issue. HeForShe is inviting people around the world to stand together to create a bold, visible force for gender equality.
Who are we talking to?
Movers and shakers, both men and women of the world who are advocates at heart, and know from experience that change starts from within, and that small actions can have a great impact.
What are we asking you to do?
Inspire people to take action in their daily lives to fight stereotypes, speak up for equality, and spread the message to others. When 50% of the population is not able to access the same opportunities as the other 50%, 50% of every country around the world is held back. As humanity stands currently, we are a mere half of everything we could be.
Find a way to influence movers and shakers. This is NOT just about talking to men. Despite the name “HeForShe”, the organization does not want to focus solely on talking to men. Gender equality is not a women’s issue, it’s an everyone issue. Focus on the solution, not the problem, and help people recognize and change the everyday sexism they encounter, endure, or (wittingly/unwittingly) promote.
