Denise cole, Co-Founder, Creative Director at Juliet

Denise is co-founder and creative director at Toronto advertising agency Juliet. She cut her teeth in advertising working alongside creative giants at Cutwater in San Francisco. Her time there shaped her approach to advertising, and that approach is simple: Make work you would proudly put on your wall in your home. With that goal in mind, she strives to turn ads into work that is beloved by the target it is designed to reach, and in doing so, connecting on a much more meaningful level. From Cutwater, Denise went on to work at TBWA and J. Walter Thompson where she gained global recognition at Cannes, One Show, D&AD, and Communication Arts. In addition to her day job, Denise teaches at Miami Ad School and helps young creatives learn the ropes of the industry. She is also a board member of the Advertising & Design Club of Canada.

Deadline: April 30st 2021 at Midnight PST.

BRIEF: new normal events

The events industry was one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. While many organizers were fast to pivot to online events and embrace technology, anyone who’s attended one can attest: even the best of them don’t quite compare.

Attendees are never fully present and so many intangibles are lost. The energy, the serendipity, the crowds, the after hoursdrinks, the crazy stories…and the networking opportunities.

But it’s not all bad.

Online events open up access to people who otherwise couldn’t afford the travel burden and create lucrative scaling opportunities for the organizers. In some cases, they even allow for truly A-List speakers to give their time, since the commitment is less taxing when it doesn’t involve travel (Elon Musk and Putin on Clubhouse anyone?)

So, like many things post-pandemic, it appears the events world will adopt a “hybrid” model.

Your challenge:

Design an attendee experience for an event of your choice in a way that encourages interaction between IRL attendees andonline participants, without compromising either’s experience.

It can be a single activation, a series of experiences or the whole event if you want to.

The event can cater to any industry, anywhere around the world.

**assume we live in the hopefully not so distant future where it’s perfectly safe to attend large gatherings for the needs of this brief**
