Diego Machado & Hugo Veiga, global Chief creative Officers, AKQA

Diego Machado and Hugo Veiga are representatives of Brazil’s new generation of creative leadership.

After being highlighted by Ad Age as “Creatives You Should Know,” they were recognised World’s Creative Duo of the year at the 2013 Cannes Lions. That Festival, they won a record of 23 Lions for five different projects, including Latin America’s first Titanium Grand Prix with Dove Real Beauty Sketches.

Dove Real Sketches became the most-watched branded film of all time on YouTube and TIME magazine named it the best commercial of 2013.

AKQA São Paulo opened in 2014 and they have led creative projects for innovative companies like Google, Netflix, Pepsico, Nike and Ab Inbev; and artists like Usher, Elton John and Lady Gaga. Re-imagining the future of creative agencies, the office - named AKQA Casa (Home) - is human and community oriented, where creative-minded people from any background and of any discipline – musicians, artists, writers or performers – are welcome to co-create with the AKQA team. The studio's dynamic is so unique that in 2018, AKQA São Paulo was named the WPP happiest office in the world.

In 2019, at Cannes Lions, AKQA São Paulo became Latin America’s Agency of The Year after scoring, among other awards, Media Grand Prix - with Nike Air Max Graffiti stores - and Entertainment for Music Grand Prix - with Bluesman. And in 2020, they won the same honor, now at the One Show.

Since the beginning of 2020, as Global CCO's, they have been working to elevate the creative output of the network.

BRIEF: HELP A LOCAL BUSINESS NEAR YOU.

Combine your knowledge in design, storytelling and experience to help small businesses near you.

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically and quickly changed ways of life for virtually everyone around the world to some extent.

For many small businesses, the pandemic has either close the business or it's making it hard to continue, as authorities forced non-essential enterprises to close temporarily and mandated that all others follow new health and safety procedures.

Your mission is to find a business near you and improve its chances to, not only survive, but also thrive in this period.

You can make an awareness campaign, transform its business like a new special haircut for a barbershop, an exclusive dish for a restaurant, a new flavor for an ice-cream shop that will drive the town crazy, a simple e-commerce tool, a social engagement campaign, … you name it. You are in the possession of knowledge that most of small business owners don't have. Just find a small business or person of your choice and help them with your knowledge.

In essence: use the power of a simple idea to help owners of small businesses. There’s no universal fix for small businesses in these strange times, but you can find ways forward toward a brighter, more resilient future.

Deadline: November 30st 2020 at Midnight PST.
