Round 4 of 8: December

Judge: Laura Jordan Bambach.

CREATIVE PARTNER, MR PRESIDENT LONDON

"There were an enormous amount of briefs for December. And of incredible quality and creativity.

Being such a very important and sensitive issue, particularly in the current political climate where progressive rights are being eroded daily, I’ve worked with the Stonewall team here in the UK (thanks team, you’re amazing!) throughout the judging process.

The ideas awarded are not only clever and creative, but come from a place of understanding and positive action. The ones that we believe could effect real change, right now. That represent non-binary people with respect. And that have the scale to make the biggest impact in terms of acceptance and behaviour change.

The most fascinating part of the judging process was seeing that fashion represented a great source of inspiration and a great many of the ideas. The ones that rose to the top are well thought out and well executed. Connecting the right brands and keeping fashion as fun as it should be, with a powerful message.

Creating digital and social utilities to allow people to be addressed in the right way was also a trend, and again the best of these would go a long way to create understanding if they were to actually be implemented (come on Messenger!).

There were some incredibly brave ideas in the mix as well - such as tackling the issue that babies are gendered from birth - all done with such sensitivity and joy that they’re almost impossible to argue against.

I always say that great creative ideas are a dime a dozen - you see them regularly in student books - but empathy is what differentiates a truly great creative thinker. In this brief empathy ran powerfully through all the best work and both the Stonewall team and I have been thoroughly impressed."
